There are 4 different Tone Modes. These can be set at any point by typing the corresponding letter and then Ctrl + Alt+ Shift + 1

Base Letter Key Combination Mode

d [C] + [A] + [S] + 1 Diacritics
a [C] + [A] + [S] + 1 Arrows

After setting a mode, it doesn't need to be reset until you leave the program and return, or you change to another mode.

Letters[]

In modern IPA, tone is frequently indicated using Chao Tone Letters. The five main letters can combine into many, many, forms. All possibilities will not be shown here, but this keyboard supports up to three letters together.

After choosing Letter Mode, letters are created by pressing Ctrl + Alt+ Shift + 1, the tone number(s) and then pressing Ctrl + Alt+ Shift + 1 a second time.

Diacritics[]

Diacritics are characters that appear above letters. These are frequently used to indicate tone in non-academic settings. While this keyboard can create many of these diacritics with other key combinations, a few complex tones are only available this way.

After choosing Diacritic Mode, diacritics are created by typing the base letter, the tone number(s) and then pressing Ctrl + Alt+ Shift + 1.
